COLLINS STREET CENTRE

Public BBQ

Tucked away at the corner of Collins and Shaftesbury Streets, this South Perth community centre operates with the cheerful chaos of a church hall that's seen everything twice. The main room echoes like a cathedral built by someone who'd never heard one, which makes the bingo nights particularly atmospheric, if unintentionally so. The evaporative cooling works fine until Perth decides to be Perth, at which point you'll understand why the dance classes are so energetic. Parking's abundant, staff attention less so, but the venue handles everything from Japanese anime screenings to birthday parties with jumping castles sprawling across the outdoor space. It's the sort of place where sausage sizzles fund community dreams and Sunday services share the calendar with dance workshops. Not your typical barbie spot, but if you need a large indoor space that embraces controlled acoustic chaos, Collins Street Centre delivers exactly what community groups need.
